Questions about Kundalini Yoga

1. What is Kundalini?

Kundalini is a spiritual energy. It can be described as a “sleeping” energy. In yoga philosophy, we often read about a sleeping snake coiling at the base of the spine.

2. What is kundalini yoga good for?

Kundalini Yoga is a form of yoga that releases a lot of energy in the body by opening the chakras.

3. Is kundalini yoga dangerous?

Kundalini Yoga is not dangerous per se, but Kundalini is a very intense energy. When it is fully awakened all at once, it can feel like an explosion that scares some people.

Many people are not prepared for that, and that can cause adjustment problems in everyday life. So it can be quite intense.

Kundalini and Prana

Kundalini is not the same as prana. Prana is the life energy that surrounds us and is present everywhere. Kundalini energy is a spiritual energy that can only be felt if it can be consciously awakened.

Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga is a form of yoga that releases a lot of energy in the body by opening the chakras. The energy and power comes from within.

Chakras can be described as energy zones that are important for balancing the energy flows in your body.

Yogi Bhajan (born in India in 1929) introduced Kundalini Yoga to the Western world in the 1960s. The reason why this form of yoga went around the world so late was because of an ancient obligation of secrecy.

Bhajan decided to share this knowledge anyway, and so now we can spread it further.

Chakras and Kundalini Yoga

Earlier we mentioned the importance of chakras and Kundalini Yoga, but what exactly are they about? It may sound a bit complicated, but if you think about it for a moment, it all makes good sense.

All the chakras are located around the spine. This is because the spine is where the human central nervous system is located, through which a lot of energy is transported in nerve pathways.

Kundalini Yoga ensures that the chakras are opened with the help of exercises, releasing a lot of energy into the nervous system.

What is Kundalini energy?

Kundalini energy is energy that is released when the chakras are opened. Kundalini energy is released through special exercises. These exercises are characteristic of Kundalini Yoga.

Kundalini energy is a special form of energy. This is because this energy is released directly into the body.

When a chakra has opened, the energy is passed through the body via the nervous system. This “spontaneous energy” can be felt directly.

Experiencing the Kundalini Energy

Experiencing the Kundalini energy requires a lot of patience. This is because the Kundalini energy can only be properly released when the chakras have opened properly.

Opening the chakras properly is unfortunately a bit more difficult for the beginner, it requires a lot of experience with yoga to do it properly. Kundalini Yoga is therefore not particularly suitable for yoga beginners.

It is recommended to practice Kundalini Yoga only after a certain basic level in yoga. Many yogis therefore take a series of hatha yoga classes first.

Kundalini Yoga exercises, what do they look like?

In Kundalini Yoga, the exercises are performed dynamically. Thus, one exercise merges into another. Here the postures are performed exactly in the prescribed time.

By performing Kundalini Yoga exercises and breathing, mind and spirit become one. Breathing can be very decisive for the physical condition.

Kundalini Yoga exercises

Imagine: Are you breathing fast or slow? Are you angry, anxious, happy or very calm? All these emotions can cause you to breathe differently.

Meditations are also very important in Kundalini exercises. These can be done silently, but also dynamically.

For a dynamic performance, think of a meditative breathing rhythm or the use of mantras.

Kundalini energy and auras

You may have heard the term “aura” before. Auras are often associated with spirituality and spirits. Interestingly, auras are part of the same energy system as kundalini energy and are described in detail in yoga.

In Hinduism, the foundation of yoga, everything on earth is experienced as a flow of energy. Energy is never lost, but only changes its form. In this field, this energy can be associated with spirituality.

Some people claim to be able to see auras around people, often these can be distinguished in colors. As crazy as it may sound, this could well be true.

Auras and Chakras

If a particular chakra emits a dominant energy in relation to the other chakras, this can throw the kundalini energy out of balance, making one feel out of balance physically or mentally.

Although it is not proven, it could be that some people can perceive the dominant chakra as a color.

This is because the chakras in the human body are all arranged around the spine, the nerve center of the body. These can be divided into seven chakras, each of which is assigned a color.

Auras in the environment of people should therefore be well perceived by some people, others can even perceive and describe them.

Kundalini Reiki

Kundalini Reiki is a psychic form of therapy. The therapy form works with Kundalini energy.

The energy of this spiritual force is located at the base of the spine and is “coiled” there, so to speak. Kundalini Yoga exercises can be performed to release the energy in the body.

The energy can also be passed on to someone from the outside, this is done through Kundalini Reiki.

What happens during Kundalini Reiki?

In Kundalini Reiki, simply put, energy is transferred from the therapist to the person being treated. It is therefore not Kundalini Yoga.

As a result, the person experiences an increased level of energy. The energy that this person then feels is the Kundalini energy.

It is created by clearing what are called “blockages” in a person’s energy system and brings the chakras into better balance.

When the chakras are balanced, you feel more energized and balanced. All the energy channels in your body are “cleansed”, so to speak, and you will feel better both physically and mentally as a result.

A Kundalini Reiki treatment can be done in different ways.

For example, there are treatments where the therapist places his hands on the body of the person being treated. There are also forms of therapy where the energy transfer is done remotely.

Regardless of which form of treatment is chosen, all treatments provide an energy transfer that will make you feel much more comfortable and energized.

Problems with Kundalini Reiki

There are no real risks with Kundalini Reiki, at least when the therapy is performed by someone who has a sufficient understanding of Kundalini energy.

For example, one risk with Kundalini Reiki could be that your chakras are opened “incorrectly,” causing your energy system to become unbalanced rather than cleansed.

As a result, you feel out of balance, a certain energy then dominates in your body, causing the chakras and thus your entire energy system to become unbalanced.

Therefore, should you ever want to try Kundalini Reiki, it is advisable to do so with a person who has sufficient knowledge of this spiritual energy.

When is Kundalini Reiki useful?

Kundalini Reiki can be used for various types of ailments.

These ailments can range from physical to mental and even spiritual. Kundalini Reiki is therefore useful for many types of ailments.

It has never been scientifically proven that Kundalini Reiki actually helps. Nevertheless, there are many people who feel much more energetic and better after a treatment.

I personally prefer to work with Kundalini through yoga, pranayama and meditation.

Is Kundalini Yoga dangerous?

We are sometimes asked if Kundalini Yoga can be dangerous.

Dangerous may not be the right word, but at events in Bali where people were working with this spiritual energy, we have seen people come out disillusioned.

We have also heard stories from others where Kundalini has done more bad than good.

Why is that?

It is a very intense energy. And when you fully awaken it all at once, it can feel like an explosion. Many people are not prepared for this and therefore cannot function well in today’s world.

It’s like getting into a Ferrari without getting a driver’s license.

It is better to awaken the Kundalini gradually with the help of proper guidance. This can be difficult because many teachers and so-called “gurus” do not focus on this gradual process because people often want a “quick fix”.

So can I start Kundalini Yoga right away?

That depends on your current level of yoga. It is not suitable for yoga beginners.

For yogi beginners, it is advisable to first master a basic form of yoga such as Hatha Yoga. Later, one could eventually move on to Kundalini Yoga.

Since this form of yoga works a lot with opening the chakras, it can be dangerous to experiment with it on your own. After all, this form of yoga has been kept secret for so long for a reason.
